Renault ready for solo entry in Indian Car market

Renault, France’s second-largest car maker is ready to make an aggressive entry in Indian Car market with seven or eight new Renault models. It will include Renalut hatchback and luxury sedans. Renault officially announced its solo entry plans on 12th Feb 2010 .

The move comes after Renault’s troubled five-year partnership with Mahindra and Mahindra failed to provide the French company with a platform to become a serious player in the country. Mahindra-Renault joint venture, in which Renault owns 49 %, has been able to sell only 7,000 cars annually of just one model, the Mahindra-Renault Logan.

Renault’s small car is expected to compete against the Hyundai i10, a version of its luxury car Renault Fluence which will take on Honda Civic and the Skoda Octavia, a model of the Renault Koleos, a sports utility vehicle, will compete with the Honda CRV, and a version of the Renault Kangoo, a utility vehicle, that could lock horns with Maruti’s low-priced Eeco.

Renault Twizy may come to India

Renault has chalked out aggressive plans to expand its market share in India. On the sidelines of asserting the launch of the Renault Fluence saloon and Renault Koleos SUV by early 2011, Renault has also put forward plans to launch zero emission cars in India.

Renault, the French manufacturer is looking out for an Indian partner with whom the zero emission cars can be developed for India. Twizy Z.E, a concept showcased at the Frankfurt Motorshow, is what Renault is looking out for the Indian market.

Renault Twizy Concept, an innovative response to the challenge of urban mobility, has a four-wheel chassis and offers the driver and passenger – seated one behind the other – an all-electric means of transport which produces no CO2 emissions. With 2.30meters long and just 1.13meters wide, the Twizy ensures that it can be nimble enough for urban use.

With a turning circle of just three meters and a footprint barely larger than that of a scooter, Renault Twizy is easy to find parking space on our crowded streets. Powered by a 20bhp electric motor the car develops 7.14kgm of max torque and can attain a top speed of 75kph.
